The hot springs in Tabacon...
|
A topiary in Zarcero, on the road to Arenal, provides a scenic diversion.

The area around the Arenal volcano offers something for everyone. My personal
favorite is the Tabacon hot springs at the base of the volcano. For a nominal
admission fee, you can enjoy the waters in several different fashions: there
is a waterfall that offers a wonderful natural massage, small pools surrounded
by tropical flowers, and several swimming pools. The largest offers a swim up
bar and a slide that kids of all ages will appreciate. There are also several
cool down pools. If you are on a budget, there is a cheaper spa across the
street. Of course, you can do what the locals do, and park on the side of the
road, and hike down to the natural springs in the woods.
There is also terrific fishing to be enjoyed on Lake Arenal - fly fishermen go
after both Rainbow Bass and the spirited Machaca. Lake Arenal is also world
renowned for wind surfing, and hikers also enjoy trekking to the waterfall
outside of the town of La Fortuna. Trips to the Cano Negro Wildlife Reserve
can be arranged by most hotels. Of course, the most compelling reason to
visit this area is the volcano itself. Once you have heard it sigh, groan,
and rumble, you will understand why some ancient people worshiped volcanoes as
gods. Several lodges in the area offer spectacular views of this awe inspiring
natural spectacle.
Visit some of our hotels in the area:
- Tabacon Resort - a lodge and spa, Tabacon Resort's 72 rooms are all air-conditioned and boast views of either the volcano or the beautiful gardens.
- Arenal Vista Lodge - located right across the lake
- Arenal Lodge - with breathtaking views of the volcano right from your room!
- Hotel Tilawa - located on the western side of Lake Arenal (opposite the volcano) and
best known for its outstanding Windsurfing packages!

The Arenal Botanical Garden makes a wonderful side-trip while you're visiting the area!
