Afternoon tours range in price from $20 to $60 and include:  guide, transportation, and entrance fees.  Here are some examples of the tours we offer in the afternoons at  CPI FLAMINGO


AFTERNOON EXCURSIONS
 
Boat Safari, Río Corobici
At Río Corobici, an hour and a half drive from CPI Flamingo, a local company offers a two hour jungle safari during which students may see monkeys, alligators, and a variety of birds from the dry forest region.

Canopy Tour
This tour starts at the forest edge with a guide.  After a short hike, climb to the first of a series of platforms that are 20 to 30 meters high.  After being harnesed to cables, you traverse along the forest canopy.
 
Guaitil 
This town is famous for its artisan ceramic work; much of the artwork is based on pre-Columbian designs.  The "pueblo" of Guaitil is a 40 minute drive from Flamingo and is a great place to purchase souvenirs. 
 
Water Activities 
At CPI Flamingo a number of aquatic activities are readily available.  In Flamingo there are two professional diving shops which offer: scuba diving, kayaking, snorkeling, jet skiing, sailing, and island tours.
 
Sunset Cruise 
Take a cruise of the islands surrounding the Flamingo area. 
 
Turtle Nesting 
During the nesting season (October - March) CPI offers a weekly night tour to Playa Grande so the students may see the great Baula turtles laying their eggs. 
 
Horseback riding
After classes you may take a horseback riding trip along the various beaches and mountain areas surrounding Flamingo.

Boat Safari, Tamarindo Estuary
This is a two hour guided safari where students observe alligators, congo monkeys, and a great variety of birds.



 

WEEKEND TOURS OFFERED FROM CPI FLAMINGO

Prices range from $90 - $120 and include hotel, guide, transportation and park entrance fees.
 

Rincon de la Vieja Volcano 
An active volcano only 2 hours from Flamingo, Rincon de la Vieja is known for its hot water and mud pools at the volcano base.  During this guided tour the group learns about the vegetation and animal life native to this eco-system while hiking along the trails near the volcano.
 
Palo Verde National Reserve
Palo Verde Reserve, named for the green horsebean shrub, consists of 13,058 hectares of protected area in the driest region of Costa Rica, the Tempisque basin.  A network of large watering hole attract a variety of animals, such as: crocodiles, monkeys, deer, pizotes, bats and over 300 species of birds (a bird lovers dream!).  The group hikes along a series of trails to the watering hole and after continues onto a look out point with a view of the entire Gulf of Nicoya.
 
Santa Rosa National Reserve 
Classified as a dry forest, Santa Rosa Reserve, the first national park in Costa Rica, offers a selection of hiking trails within the forest (some lead to the coast line where visitors can swim in the crystal blue waters of the Pacific).   In addition to over 250 species of birds, animals seen in the reserve include: deer, anteaters, over 50 species of bats and howler, spider and white-faced monkeys. 

Within the park is "La Casona", a museum rich with historical importance; it was here where Costa Rica defended her independence against the North American colonizer, William Walker.

 
Caves at Barra Honda National Park
A few miles from Río Tempisque, the caves of Barra Honda consist of a series of limestone caverns classified by scientists as being in existence some 70 million years.  A tour of the caves provides an exciting adventure for the brave at heart! 
 
Monteverde 
Experience the Monteverde Cloud forest during a two day trip.  The first day students tour the Finca Ecologica to see the flora and fauna native to the Monteverde region.  In the evening take a night tour of the Monteverde Cloud Reserve in order to see the nocturnal wildlife that is hidden during the day.  The following day the group takes the Sky Trek tour.  The Sky Trek is an interesting combination of both a canopy tour and a hanging bridge tour allowing the student to view the forest from above.
 
Arenal Volcano 
On this overnight trip students have the opportunity to bathe and relax at Tabacon Hot Springs, natural water pools and falls heated by the volcano.  In addition students hike to Catarata La Fortuna and along the base of the volcano to see the lava up close!
