Santa Rosa National Reserve
Classified as a dry forest, Santa Rosa Reserve, the first national park in Costa Rica, offers a selection of hiking trails within the forest (some lead to the coast line where visitors can swim in the crystal blue waters of the Pacific). In addition to over 250 species of birds, animals seen in the reserve include: deer, anteaters, over 50 species of bats and howler, spider and white-faced monkeys. Within the park is "La Casona", a museum rich with historical importance; it was here where Costa Rica defended her independence against the North American colonizer, William Walker. |
