SPECIAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM FOR THE SOCIAL SCIENCES
January 8th - 26th, 2001

The increased immigration of Latin Americans and their subsequent integration into North American society have led to newly emergent demands on the social service system.  This factor, coupled with the need for cultural sensitivity, has led to a greater demand for psychologists and social workers with a working knowledge of Spanish as well as an understanding of Latin American culture.  An excellent way to improve both language skills and cultural awareness is to study in a Spanish speaking country.

For this reason, CPI has designed a special 3 week seminar directed to professionals working in the social services.  The seminar includes Spanish classes and direct contact with the local and social service community.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

WEEK ONE
Spanish Classes at CPI Heredia
Monday through Friday
8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

During Week One, to allow participants to establish a base in the language, Spanish classes are the only activity schedules.  Students are placed according to level based upon a written exam and oral interview.  The maximum class size is four students per class.  Small class size makes for optimum learning as students receive specialized attention from their professor.  Morning classes concentrate upoon grammar and conversation, the necessary elements for communication.  Professional vocabulary is also introduced during the first week.  After classes there are optinal cultural activities, such as: Latin dance class and cooking class, a visit to a local coffee plantation and "noches tipicas".

Friday Conferences
