In their earliest days, Aguila de Osa was mostly known as a fishing camp. And that is the type of clients that we would send them. They still have several boats, and the fishing in this region is superb. They also have a full dive shop for our SCUBA guests. So there is a lot to do here.

The lodge has a real “rustic chic” feel to it. All of the rooms feature high ceilings (the ceiling heights in most rooms soar to 18 feet). All are fully screened to capture any ocean breezes, including ceiling fans and dormers to release the warm air and capture the breezes. All feature nicely appointed bathrooms that feature Italian tile, and granite counter tops. All offer Bay views, and outdoor spaces to enjoy them. Please note that these accommodations do not offer air conditioning.

The rooms are all arranged on a bluff, to take advantage of both the breezes and the stunning views of Drake Bay and the ocean beyond. While the view is wonderful from high up on the bluff, it is important to note that this does mean some steep climbs (the equivalent of about 90 steps) from the bar / restaurant / lounging area to the accommodations. So you should be in reasonable condition when you visit Aguila de Osa.

The payoff, is that you are located in the rainforest, you are serenaded with a symphony of nature sounds at night. Ninety percent of what you hear are insects and small reptiles and amphibians. But it sounds like so much more! High tide brings pounding surf, it is a delightful mix of nature on full display.

Meals are included, and we found the ever changing menu to be interesting and creative. With something for everyone. You can sit “Family Style” to enjoy meals with the other guests. Or you can have a private table for privacy.

There is also a relaxing lounge area near the restaurant. Once again, featuring that stunning view. This is the perfect place for a pre dinner cocktail or an after dinner nightcap. Or a cup of excellent Costa Rican coffee..
