|Osa Peninsula Costa Rica|
The Osa Peninsula is one of the most rustic and beautiful areas of Costa Rica and is home to Corcovado National Park, the largest area of virgin rainforest left on the west coast of the Americas. This is the Costa Rica you have seen on TV! Scarlet macaws, toucans, monkeys and sloths, are very common here. Occasionally, you will be fortunate enough to spot a big cat!. We saw our first jaguarundi here, and even found fresh puma tracks one day on the beach.
All manner of accommodations are available here from “rustic chic” to tents on platforms. Most properties now offer electricity and hot water. That wasn’t always the case as recently as just a few years ago!
There are several lodges in the Drake Bay area that offer three and four day packages from San Jose. This is probably one of the best ways to visit this very remote area. The packages include meals, transportation, and usually a tour of the Corcovado National Park and Snorkeling at Isla del Cano.
If you plan to visit this natural paradise, be prepared to expend some energy having a good time! But the natural beauty make it worth the effort. The terrain is uneven and can be a little trying for the beginning hiker. Let us know of any physical limitations that you may have.
